As a parent with a child attending Monarch Grove Elementary School, Michael understands firsthand how important a strong elementary education is to lifelong success. He is committed to helping all SLCUSD schools continue to be schools our community are proud of -- where every student is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Michael Glavan believes strong financial stewardship starts with prioritzing what matters most: excellent teachers, safe and well-maintained facilities, effective learning tools, and student support services. It also means carefully reviewing spending, planning ahead for future needs, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used efficiently and responsibly.

Michael Glavan believes families should be welcomed as true partners in education. This commitment is personal for Michael's family. His child attends Monarch Grove Elementary School, and his partner serves as PTA President. Their family is actively involved in supporting students, teachers, and school programs. Michael has also volunteered with Kiwanis at Baywood Elementary, continuing his commitment to serving local schools and students.
He understands firsthand how valuable engaged families are to a successful school community and is committed to building a culture where every parent feels heard, respected, and empowered to help students succeed.
VOCATIONAL PATHS
Student success is not one-size-fits-all. Every child deserves the opportunity to discover their strengths and build a future that fits their talents, interests, and goals. That foundation begins early by helping students develop confidence, curiosity, responsibility, and real-world skills.
Michael Glavan believes schools should prepare students for all pathways to success -- including college, skilled trades, military service, entrepreneurship, and technical careers. While elementary school is the beginning of the journey, early exposure to problem-solving, teamwork, hands-on learning, science, technology, and career awareness can inspire students for years to come.
Our schools play an important role in shaping future opportunities for Los Osos families. Michael supports strong academic fundamentals paired with enrichment opportunities that help students discover how classroom learning connects to future careers and life skills.
With his own background in military leadership, operations, and practical problem-solving, Michael understands the value of multiple pathways to success. He is committed to helping students see that achievement can take many forms -- and that every child should leave our schools prepared to pursue a bright future with confidence.
Focused learning through responsible technology
The best learning happens when students are actively engaged with their teachers, classmates, and the lesson; not constantly looking at a screen. Our classrooms should prioritize meaningful instruction, face to face interaction, and thoughtful use of technology.
I will advocate for:
Cell Phone-Free Classrooms Clear, consistently enforced policies that keep personal cell phones out of classrooms during the school day so students can focus on learning.
Reduced Reliance on School-Issued Devices Use Chromebooks and other school-issued devices only when they meaningfully enhance instruction; NOT as the default for every lesson or assignment.
More Hands On Learning Encourage greater use of books, writing, discussion, science labs, are, and collaborative activities that build critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
Digital Responsibility Equip students with the skills to use technology safety, responsibility, and effectively while developing healthy screen habits.
My Vision Students should leave school with strong academic skills, meaningful relationships, and a healthy relationship with technology. Classrooms should be places where technology supports great teaching; NOT replaces it.
